Scintille Pearled Candle: Our Story

Hi there and welcome to our blog! I’m Heidi, one of the sisters and co-founders of Scintille. Here’s the story of how Scintille Pearled Candles came to life.

Years ago, my sister Sirli and I were inspired by a kids’ crafting concept—those colorful sand candles that were “a thing” decades ago. We quickly realized there was so much more potential in this idea, and a way to solve some real issues with traditional candles:

  • Candles are wasteful – we hated throwing away old candle jars.

  • Candles get ugly over time – tunneling and uneven burning ruined the experience, and who actually reads the fine print anyway?

We decided to reinvent this concept for the modern world: a clean-burning, versatile, and eco-conscious candle. At the time, the alternatives were made from paraffin wax, produced black smoke, and came in plastic bags—not ideal.

With my background in chemistry and product development, and Sirli’s eye for design and experience in logistics, we knew we could create something truly valuable.

It was important to us that our product not replace one environmental problem with another. We focused on using sustainable, plant-based wax, designing packaging that was both convenient and planet-friendly, and creating a product that people would love to use again and again.

Months of research, chemistry experiments, packaging design, component sourcing, and manufacturing trials later, we finally had something we were proud of. We called it Scintille Pearled Candle, filed for a patent, and began sharing it with the world.

Unlike traditional sand candles, Scintille Pearled Candles are made from proprietary plant-based ingredients, making them non-toxic and ensuring a clean burn with minimal smoke or soot.

Through careful testing, we also discovered that they are safer than conventional candles for two key reasons:

  1. Self-extinguishing pearls – if accidentally tipped over, the pearls naturally snuff out the flame. (Of course, we still recommend following standard candle safety guidelines and keeping them out of reach of children and pets.)

  2. Controlled burn in containers – when used according to the recommended container size, the melt pool never reaches the edge or bottom, allowing the wick to extinguish before the container gets too hot.
